Why a Maternity Test?
A well know saying and principle of Roman law states: Mater semper certa est (we are always sure as to who the mother of a child is). But this is not always the case; a mother may in some cases need to actually prove her biological relationship to her children for various reasons including family court cases and immigration.
Immigration: In Australia, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship might specifically ask you submit the results of a maternity test as evidence of the claimed biological relationship. For more information about immigration testing, click here.
Adoption: Other instances where a maternity test might be warranted is in cases of adoptive children wishing to reunite with their adoptive mother –here a maternity test might be the only way to fully ascertain whether the woman in question is the birth mother of the child.
In-vitro fertilization: In-vitro fertilization is a type of assisted reproductive technology where an egg and a sperm are fertilized outside the human body and the embryo then transferred into the uterus. In some cases, a maternity test might be sought to confirm that the right embryo was implanted.
Important Notes
We can only guarantee standard result turnaround time when testing takes place solely using oral swab samples. Using a discreet sample for your test may lead to an increase in turnaround time.
